  • 4๏ธโƒฃOnly reveal hidden info if the student asks directly and uses correct vocabulary.

๐Ÿ’ฐ The Three Account Options (Secret Info)

Everyday Account
You push this one
$8/month Waived if you deposit $2,000+/month (student probably can't) $15/event $0 own ATM, $2.50 foreign Linked credit card offer
Student Account
Best for student

Basic Account $0 No overdraft protection. No credit card. International fees high. Card declined (no overdraft) $2.00 all ATMs โ€”
๐ŸŽญ Acting note: Lead with the Everyday Account first. Say it's "our most popular option." Only mention the Student Account if the student specifically asks about student options or says they're a student. Don't mention the fee waiver condition unless asked.
๐Ÿ’ณ Upsell Opportunity: Credit Card

After they open the account, say: "Would you like me to pre-approve you for a credit card with $2,000 limit? Great for emergencies!" โ€” Push this gently. Don't mention interest rates (22.74% p.a.) unless asked.

๐ŸŽค Fast English Lines (use in Hard Mode)

You (fast): "Right so we've got the Everyday which is eight bucks a month waived if you're depositing two thou, orrr the Student but you need to prove enrolment, orr the Basic which is fee-free but no overdraft protection. Which one suits ya?"
๐Ÿ’ฌ Interrupt move: Start talking about the credit card before they finish asking their question. See if they can redirect the conversation.
๐Ÿ”ฅ Hard Mode Situations
  • ๐ŸชคTrap 1 โ€” Jargon flood: Say "your BSB is six digits, account number eight digits, and we'll set you up with PayID, BPay, OSKO..." then wait. Do they ask what any of it means?
  • ๐ŸชคTrap 2 โ€” Fake urgency: "This offer on the credit card is only available today." (It isn't โ€” if they ask, admit it, but pressure them first.)
  • ๐ŸชคTrap 3 โ€” Paperwork confusion: Hand them 3 forms. Tell them to "just sign where it says initial." Wait to see if they read it or ask what they're signing.
  • ๐ŸชคTrap 4 โ€” Phone distraction: "Sorry, one sec..." [pretend to take a call] then come back and ask "where were we?" โ€” did they remember their question?

โœ… What To Reveal (ONLY if asked directly)

  • โœ“Monthly fee exists: only if student asks "are there any fees?"
  • โœ“Student account free: only if student says "I'm a student" or asks "is there a student option?"
  • โœ“Overdraft fee: only if student asks "what happens if I spend too much?"
  • โœ“Credit card interest rate: only if student asks "what's the interest rate?"

๐ŸŽญ Always push Plan B. Say "most of our customers go with this one." Only mention Plan C if student asks about no-contract or cheap options. Never volunteer the activation fee.
"So today we've got this amazing deal โ€” Plan B, thirty gigs, unlimited everything, international calls included, super popular, most people go with it, great value, only $45 a month โ€” want to set that up today?"
๐Ÿ“ฆ Upsell: Phone Insurance

"For $9 a month I can add accidental damage cover โ€” if you crack the screen you're covered." (Don't mention the $100 excess fee unless asked.)

๐Ÿ“ฑ Upsell: Device Payment Plan

"We also have the iPhone 15 on a 24-month repayment โ€” only $89/month!" (Total cost: $2,136. Student probably can't afford this.)

๐Ÿ”ฅ Hard Mode Traps
  • ๐ŸชคSpeed read T&Cs: "Just need you to confirm you've read the terms and conditions." Point vaguely at 8-page document.
  • ๐ŸชคFake discount: "I can give you 20% off if you sign up today... but it's only the first month."
  • ๐ŸชคInternational confusion: Say "international calls included" (it's international to only 10 countries, not theirs).

๐ŸŽญ Be friendly but businesslike. Rush through the lease verbally. Point to pages quickly. Say "standard stuff, most people just sign." Never mention the bond amount first โ€” wait for them to ask.
"Yeah so it's standard 12-month lease, rent's $265 a week, bond's four weeks, inspection every 3 months, utilities not included, garden to be maintained, any questions?"
๐Ÿ”ฅ Difficult Landlord Scenarios
  • ๐ŸชคBond dispute: At end of game, say "I'm keeping part of the bond for cleaning." Does student know their rights? (RTBA holds bond in Victoria โ€” landlord can't just keep it.)
  • ๐ŸชคRent increase pressure: "Everyone else in the area is paying $300. You're getting a deal."
  • ๐ŸชคRepairs stall: "I'll get someone in to fix the heater next month." (It's winter. Student has rights to heating.)
๐Ÿ‘ฅ
CHARACTER: Difficult Roommate
"Jordan" โ€” bills avoider, socially awkward pressure
๐ŸŽญ Be friendly on the surface but evasive about money. Use casual Aussie English. Act like you "forgot" about bills. Create social pressure by guilt-tripping.

๐Ÿงพ Bills Jordan Refuses to Pay (Hidden)

  • ๐Ÿ’กClaims they "barely use" the electricity โ€” but left the heater on all week
  • ๐ŸŒSays they'll "pay for internet next month" โ€” been saying this for 6 weeks
  • ๐ŸงนNever bought cleaning supplies but uses them constantly
  • ๐ŸณUsed student's groceries without asking โ€” owes ~$15

๐Ÿ’ฌ Roleplay Lines

Jordan: "Oh hey, about that electricity bill โ€” I've been SO flat out at work this week, can we sort it next arvo? I'll Venmo ya... wait, do you use Venmo here?"
Jordan (if pushed): "Mate, I genuinely barely use electricity. I go to bed early. I feel like it's not really fair that we split it evenly, you know?"
Jordan (if student is firm): "Yeah okay, fair enough. $90 each. I'll transfer it... probably by Thursday."
๐Ÿ”ฅ Escalation Options
  • ๐ŸชคSay you're thinking of moving out mid-lease (student would need to find replacement)
  • ๐ŸชคOffer to split "mates rates" on internet but never actually pay
  • ๐ŸชคAsk student to cover your rent "just this once" because you're "a bit short"
๐Ÿ›’
CHARACTER: Supermarket Cashier

You: "Alright that's $72.40 for ya. Cash or card? Everyday Rewards card? No worries. Just tap when you're ready. Do you want a bag?"
๐ŸŽญ If student says nothing โ€” charge the wrong price. If they question it: "Oh sorry, let me check that for ya โ€” you're right, it should be [correct price]. Cheers for catching that!"
๐ŸŽ Upsell: Woolworths Rewards

"Did you want to sign up for Everyday Rewards today? You get points for every shop." (No immediate financial trap โ€” but encourages data sharing)

๐Ÿ”ฅ Hard Mode
  • ๐ŸชคSpeak very fast. Don't pause for the student to process the total.
  • ๐ŸชคAsk multiple questions at once: "Cash or card? Got a Rewards card? Want bags? Any assistance with packing?"
  • ๐ŸชคOther customers "in line" โ€” create pressure to hurry up

Forgot to tap on tram$97 (or $244 if repeat)First offence: warning + request to tap now
Wrong zone travel$97No reduction
๐ŸŽญ Be official but not aggressive. Speak clearly but use authority. Don't immediately mention ways to avoid the fine โ€” let student work it out. If they're polite and explain they're new, use your "discretion."
Inspector: "Excuse me, can I see your Myki card? ...Could you tap it on this reader please?"
Inspector: "You haven't tapped on. I'll need to issue an infringement notice. Can I get your name and address?"
If polite: "Look, I'll let you off with a warning this time since you're new. But next time, always tap on before boarding."
๐Ÿ”ฅ Hard Situations
  • ๐ŸชคAsk for photo ID โ€” if student doesn't know what counts as ID in Australia
  • ๐ŸชคAsk them to spell their address โ€” listening/pronunciation pressure
  • ๐ŸชคSay "you can appeal online within 21 days" โ€” do they know what "appeal" means?
โ˜Ž๏ธ
CHARACTER: Scam Caller
Fake ATO officer / Police / Bank fraud team
โš ๏ธ SCAM ROLEPLAY
๐ŸŽญ
Teacher note: This is an educational scam simulation. Your goal is to pressure the student into giving information. If they resist โ€” congratulate them immediately and discuss the tactics used.

๐Ÿ“‹ Three Scam Scripts

โ˜Ž๏ธ Script 1: Fake ATO (Tax Office)
You: "Good afternoon, I'm calling from the Australian Taxation Office. My name is Officer Daniel Reid, badge number 4872. I'm calling because our system has flagged an unpaid tax liability of $842 in your name. If this is not resolved today, a warrant will be issued for your arrest. Are you aware of this matter?"
Pressure tactics available:
  • "I need your date of birth to verify your identity before we proceed."
  • "Payment must be made by iTunes gift cards or bank transfer today."
  • "If you hang up, the warrant will be processed automatically."
  • "This is a federal matter. Do not contact anyone about this call."
๐Ÿ† WIN CONDITION: Student asks for badge number, says they'll call ATO back, or hangs up. Any of these = student passed!
๐Ÿ“ฆ Script 2: Fake Parcel Delivery
You (as text message, read aloud): "Your parcel could not be delivered. A $3.95 redelivery fee is required. Please pay within 24 hours or your parcel will be returned: delivery-aus.com/pay"
๐ŸŽญ If playing as text: show student a physical card or write on paper. Ask if they'd pay it. Did they notice the suspicious website?
๐Ÿฆ Script 3: Fake Bank Fraud Team
You: "Hello, this is NAB Fraud Prevention. We've detected suspicious activity on your account โ€” a $1,200 transfer to an unknown account. To secure your account we need to verify your identity. Can you please confirm your full name, date of birth, and the last 4 digits of your card?"
If student gives info โ†’ STOP immediately:

Break character. Say: "I'm going to stop there โ€” that was a scam roleplay. Real banks NEVER ask for your full card details over an inbound call. Let's talk about what happened there."

โšก
Week 3 Extra Scenarios
Electricity bill + customer service calls + coworker pressure

โšก Electricity Company Customer Service

๐ŸŽญ Student has received a $360 electricity bill. They call to query it. You are the energy company's customer service team.
You: "AGL, you're speaking with Brent, how can I help ya today?"
After student explains: "Yeah look, that bill's based on the last 90 days โ€” quarterly billing. Is this your first bill with us?"
Upsell: "Have you looked at our Green Energy plan? It's slightly more per month but you're reducing your carbon footprint."
๐Ÿ’ก Hidden: Payment Plan

If student can't pay $360 at once โ€” there IS a payment plan option but only offer it if they say they can't afford it. Don't volunteer this information!

๐Ÿ‘” Coworker Pressure Scenario

๐ŸŽญ Play as a coworker pressuring the student to join a "work lunch" that costs $45/person.
Coworker: "Hey, we're all going to that Thai place for lunch โ€” you're coming right? It's $45 each but it's worth it, really good. The whole team's going. It'll be good for ya to get to know everyone."
If student says they can't afford it: "Oh come on, it's fine โ€” you only live once! Just this once."
Goal: Can student politely decline and set financial boundaries in English?

๐Ÿšจ Emergency Event Cards

Trigger anytime
๐ŸŽฒ
When to trigger emergencies: After the student seems too comfortable. During a transaction. Mid-conversation. Right after they've made a decision. Real life doesn't wait for convenient timing!

๐Ÿ“œ Quick Reference Scripts

๐Ÿ—ฃ Fast Australian English Bank Lines

"Yeah so what we'd normally do is set ya up with the everyday then maybe look at adding the savings in a coupla weeks once you're sorted, yeah?"
"Look the fee's only eight bucks which honestly most customers don't even notice it's coming out."
"We can waive that today if you sign up for the credit card โ€” totally up to you, no pressure."
"Right, just gonna need your passport, proof of address โ€” like a bill in your name โ€” and TFN if you've got it."
๐ŸŽญ TFN = Tax File Number. If student doesn't know this: pause. Do they ask? Or do they say "yes" and pretend they know?

๐Ÿ”ฅ Pressure Tactics Toolkit

  • โฐFake time limit: "This rate's only available till end of today."
  • ๐Ÿ‘ฅSocial proof: "Everyone who comes in here gets this one."
  • ๐Ÿ˜ณConfusion: Throw in 3 options at once, wait for them to process.
  • ๐Ÿ“‹Paperwork rush: "Just sign here, here, and initial there โ€” standard stuff."
  • ๐Ÿ“žFake interruption: Pretend to take a call mid-explanation.
  • ๐ŸคGuilt trip: "I went out of my way for you here."
  • ๐ŸƒRushing: "I've got someone waiting โ€” shall we just go with this one?"
